SUMMER STEAM ACTIVITY SERIES

As STEAM educators, we place a high value on

process art and open-ended play in our studio.

Open-ended play and process art are all about the process. There are no instructions, strict rules, or defined outcomes.

It’s unstructured and limitless.

People can make the mistake of associating open-ended play and process art with only toddlers. It’s not just beneficial for small children, it’s beneficial for all children.

When choosing tools for process art and open-ended play, we recommend materials that can be used in a variety of ways and with a variety of items. One of our favorite tools for open-ended projects is Makedo.

Makedo is a simple to use, open-ended system of tools for creative cardboard construction. Makedo allows children to build imaginative and useful creations from upcycled (repurposed) everyday cardboard.

Makedo is a fabulous open-ended toy construction system. We have always found their tools to be sturdy and well-made. And we get to be even more creative with our favorite, ever-versatile material: cardboard!

We love Makedo and wanted to extend the opportunity to you to get a discount on Makedo kits and products! Use our affiliate link www.make.do/designhivela or code DESIGNHIVELA for 10% off your next purchase.

This summer, encourage open-ended play and process art in your home. You’ll find that it:

  • Challenges creative and critical thinking and problem solving

  • Gives children the opportunity to self-regulate and independently make decisions

  • Strengthens hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills

  • Provides a calming, meditative environment for children to create
